January 26, 2015- in La Plata with Elder Vargas

"lunch with the familia Aguerro, they are like our best friends. we teach with them a lot and they always invite us to do family home evenings in their home."

So this was a pretty good week.  we had a lot of fun things happen and this week that’s coming up is gonna be really good too I hope. First my new comp is named Elder Vargas.  He’s got 4 months left and started his mission in the ward right next to ours in el Carmen, so he knows La Plata pretty well too. He’s from Brasil. The only thing I really notice about the Portuguese accent is that he says the word “hola” funny. It’s kinda weird. He’s great, I’m really excited to be with him and I think I’m gonna learn a lot from him.

It’s been really good here. We’re working with a lot of menos activos still so we spend a lot of time teaching just scriptural messages. We also had the chance to go do service this week. We went to help this lady start and build her wall. It was kinda fun. I got to use a pickaxe and no I didn’t put it in my knee- which was  good. I got really good at like bending and cutting wires. Also power tools and cutting rebar was fun- lots of sparks and stuff.

With investigators were moving pretty well with some of them. We have L..... who’s twelve. He was gonna get baptized a while ago but then decided not to. He’s back to coming to church so we can finally get him baptized. Just got to make sure that he understands the responsibility part of it.

Next we have D........ She’s really intelligent, she’s a nurse, which means she's really rich for this part of town. She’s got a ton of questions which is really nice cause we have a ton of respuestas. I’m really hopeful for her, she’s reading the Book of Mormon and everything. I think we just got to get her to church.

Next the familia C....... We’ve been teaching them in the house of the Agguerro family. The dad’s mom was a member and he’s been to the church before but never felt the need to be baptized. There’s his wife and his two little kids. they all made it to the capilla this past Sunday which was really cool I think were just gonna keep teaching them in family home evenings with the Agguerro family until they finally get an answer and understand the importance of the gospel.

Those are all of them that are really progressing well right now. And were really focusing on them right now with the menos activos.

This next week should be really good. We have a ton of family home evenings with menos activos, investigators and the ward. We’re gonna do this thing in the chapel called trip to Hawaii. It’s where we pretend that we’re going on a plane and the plane crashes and then we use the other rooms to be like the stages of the plan of salvacion. It’s gonna be pretty cool I think.

Also we’re going to the temple this week. It’s like a 3 hour bus ride but I’m super pumped to go! It’s gonna be an all day adventure, but were all super pumped.

My knee is fine- we’re gonna go to a doctor and they’re  gonna do something to it. I’ve been talking with the mission doc it’s all good.

Love you guys

This is at Casa de Aguerro for lunch.

Random snippets from the Elder who didn’t write a full letter this week:

-you know it’s hot when you pull your planner out of your pocket and it’s wet from sweat.

-I need to go find my suit, we gave it to some members to dry clean and now I’m not too sure how I’m gonna get it back.  It’s fine I’m not worried. They’ve got both of Delgados too. it’s gonna be a pain for him- he’s in a different area now

-All’s good here mom. I’m super pumped to work with my new comp.  I need FHE games. I love you guys a lot and I’m doing good and staying healthy. You all do the same.

-no time for a letter, sorry and I forgot the paper letter thing. idk if I’m gonna do that anymore,  it’s kind of a pain. but all is good. I’m with a Brazilian who doesn’t speak English.  I’ll write about La Plata  with Elder Vargas from Brasil.

It’s great.  I love you guys!

I broke my bike seat and my ward mission leader was helping us fix it and like cutting a water pipe to use, but he sawed his hand and had to get 4 stitches. His name is Hermano Perez

January 5, 2014- in La Plata with Elder Delgado

Elder Sawyer and Elder Delgado

So it was a pretty hectic week this week.  Lots of visiting and lots of listening. New Year’s was fun. We spent it with the familia Conseca. They are super cool and funny. We played Uno and a card game similar to spoons. I learned a new word that night, “tramposo”, it means cheater. I lost, but it definitely wasn't a fair game :-) We ate some more meat. I think we probably ate a whole cow this week. Every meal it feels like they just give us a little rice and then tons of meat. Chori, carne and pollo. I'm not really complaining- it's amazing how much we eat sometimes. Also we watched the Lego movie on New Year's with our district leaders.
The fireworks are crazy here. I couldn't get a picture with one but these giant paper and wood muñecas (dolls), Like the big ones are 20 to 30 yards tall. They make them in the image of like cartoon characters. Then they fill them with fireworks and blow them up. I wish we could have seen one blowup at midnight. It would've been cool.
With investigators we have some progressing slowly but 2 ladies that we teach are going really fast.  They both have tons of questions which is great because the Gospel has the answers.
We just changed to 9:00 am church and we start with Priesthood. It’s kinda weird but easier for people to get to Sacrament meeting.
The lesson for this week is be nice to each other and don't start rumors, especially people in the ward - just be friends, it's not that hard. Do your calling and be polite. And if you're a missionary don't be an idiot.
We found out a lot of stuff this week about our area, now we know why our barrio’s struggling. It just shows how little things can wreck it for everyone else. Well, love you guys hope you had a great New Year's

  Questions:
1- Do all the kids go to school? and then college? or get a job?
 1. a lot of them drop out and just work. a lot just don’t want to go to college. It’s weird cause its free here. We always like suggest that the kids go. Either go to college or go on a mission.

2- What is the most common form of transportation for the people? bus? taxi? personal car?
2. a few people have cars most walk and take buses-  public transportation is pretty big.
