March 28, 2016- in Gonzalaz Catan with Elder Tinoco

"que tengan buen p-day !! :)"

So it was a pretty normal week. The saddest thing is that we had 0 investigators at church. It’s the first time in more than a year that I haven’t had investigators... that was kinda bad. But it just makes me want to work harder this week. It might have been because we basically spent two whole days helping prez with interviews and giving capacitation to the zone. But in spite of the difficulties we have founds a lot of good people. We did a tormenta blanca with the ward and some other missionaries in our area and had a lot of success finding new people to teach. The coolest thing of the week was when we taught Cesar the word of wisdom. We told him that he couldn’t consume coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco or drugs. We then asked if he had a problem with one of those things- him and his bro started cracking up and said he had problems with all five. hahahaha we then asked if he could stop taking them he said he could and would. As far as I know he has kept the word of wisdom 100 percent since that lesson. The other cool lesson was Marcelo our evangelico. We taught him in the temple waiting room with a temple worker. That was pretty powerful -we got to answer all his questions about garments and stuff. It was good to get the message from Armijo.  I flipping love Hermano Armijo. I think that they’re gonna come to our stake center for general conference which will be pretty cool.
I’m doing good I love you guys a ton!!
 Elder Sawyer
PS dear mommy I want to wash the backpack that Elder Montaño sent me from Ecuador, but I don’t want to damage it. It’s fabric, but it’s like a different fabricits sorta like woven- have any ideas? Remember it’s like my favorite thing in the world.  love ya

Questions:
1- you said in your last letter, "it's super super Argentine in Catan" what does that mean?-
1 it means that everyone drinks mate, talks in vos, swears like argentines, sleeps from 2-5 in the afternoon and everyone is really good at soccer.

2- Can you take a picture of a "trucho bus”?
2-when I get the opportunity. They’re not very safe and it’s not safe to have my camera out.

3- I saw the Easter video in Stake Conference. pretty cool
3-I have it memorized

6- What did you do for Easter?
6-nothing really happened. It was like a normal day

7- We got your flight info in an email the other day. Do you want to know what day you are speaking on?

7- I asked prez if I can extend and I would like a topic.
“These are my neighbors- the big guy is a chef from Brazil. I love Brazilians”

print it out and hang it on the wall- I know I'm a week late, but believe me, I have no way of cheating!

March 21, 2016- in Gonzalez Catan with Elder Tinoco

Dear family,
If one day you have to give a talk in church please please please please don’t talk about garments. Cause you don’t know if the missionaries have an investigator that likes to question everything about everything. you also don’t know if the day you decide to give talk about garments, the pre-existence, the law of chastity, tithing, the word of wisdom and the things we do in the temple is the day when that investigator come with the missionaries to church and sits on the front row. hahahahaahaha. It was a fun Sunday. Our investigators name is Marcelo. He’s a good investigator and is willing to read and try everything about the church. But he also nitpicks sometimes. The talk from this brother gave us a lot of work to do with him. We were gonna take him to the temple but now he’s kinda nervous from what he heard. hahahaha. Missionaries have a different mindset about church -I think. We’re always just super focused on helping the investigators have a good experience that we forget that everyone else isn’t a missionary. It was good though. We also had César and his bro at church. Casildo (Cesar’s bro) just moved from Paraguay and was super excited to speak Guarani with our bishop at church. He wants to do visits with us and wants a calling in the church already. So that’s pretty awesome. Brandon got baptised and is super great. Prez came to the service and spoke. Have you guys seen the video for the church for Easter? I’ve about got it memorized. Every week Catan surprises me. I rode in one of the conveys this week. They’re just big sketchy vans that people drive around in and drop people off in certain places. It was interesting. Don’t tell me who won games cause my bracket is coming next week. Have fun -enjoy the heat it’s cold here now and I’m not a fan. Have a good week.  love you guys!

March 14, 2016- in Gonzalez Catan with Elder Tinoco

“Niko is our ward mission leader. He’s super great and really funny. He likes the missionaries a lot and always wants us to eat with him. he’s also super dedicated to doing activities and visits and stuff which is great.”

So Catan is great. What I heard about Catan was correct- I’m going to get fat and probably robbed. It’s a whole other world here, like crazy. It’s super super Argentine which I love and super great. If I could describe it in one word it would be sketchy. There’s parts where it looks like a scene from an apocalyptic end of the world movie. This week I took my first trucho bus -they’re the buses not run by the government that help us get around the area. They’re all super old and barely run. Some of them look like they rolled out of a horror movie. It’s been an enjoyable week -the members are great here. The thing is we don’t have a ton of investigators right now. It’s gonna be all about finding right now. And we’ve already found a lot of really prepared people. One guy, that we almost just passed by walking down the road, I went back to talk with him- turns out he and his family had met the missionaries in Paraguay a while back and had actually gone to church and everything. We taught him and his bro and invited them to church. When we passed by Sunday in the morning nobody came out when we knocked. So we went and got on the bus. Right after we got on the bus he calls us and tells us that he had been in the bathroom and we barely missed him. That stunk, but we passed by later that night and he and his bro had been reading the book of Mormon and had actually started looking for references and stuff. That was pretty awesome. The other cool thing this week was when we went to the temple. Remember Jorge Correa and his family? Me and Elder Vargas found and taught them in El Carmen. The only reason they didn’t get baptised with us was because they weren’t married yet. They’re getting sealed in June. I ran into the whole La Plata Este stake and got to see a ton of people- that was really cool.
Kyle, the only reason you won the NCAA bracket last year was cuz I was in Argentina.
Ryan, Elder Bednar is a great speaker. I’m glad you got the chance to shake his hand. Enjoy the weather. It’s starting to get cold here and I’m not excited.
Abby, I played tag with some little kids here this week. Here it’s called quemado (burned)- it’s fun.

Love you guys a ton and have a good week!

March 7, 2016- in Aldo Bonzi with Elder Ponce transferring to Gonzalez Catan

"Lunch with Josue"

"my bff's"

so, I have good news and bad news. the bad news is that i'm not in villa celina anymore. the good news is that i'm back in Argentina hahaha. i'm now in Gonzalez Catan with Elder Tinoco from Honduras and i'm super pumped. we've know each other for like 6 months already, we started training together and both our trainees are in the Zone. We're the zone leaders of a zone of 32 Elders. Gonzalez Catana is the most dangerous part of the mission that's why there are 0 hermanas here. i'm pretty pumped. Elder ponce was here a while ago. from what i have heard i'm going to get fat and probably robbed. it's gonna be fun. i've been missing Argentina. Leaving Celina Stunk. two transfers there went really fast. i was a big surprise that i left. it always stinks leaving an area. it like rips my heart out saying bye to everyone. I never cry, but other people do and it's sad. it's also sad because we were expecting a lot of baptisms this month but hey 'im needed here in Catana. this is pretty much for sure my last area. 'i'm just excited to work. i have learned a lot and i'm just ready to go at it for 4 months here. other then the big change it was a good week. we enjoyed it and we got a lot of stuff doing. There's Metallica playing in the cyber right now and i just realized i still remember the words. hahahahahah we had consejo de liderazgo (leadership council) too so that was fun travelling to Banfeild oh and i almost forget i ran into Hermana Armijo in the temple the other day. we went to bring investigators and she was there with the young women. it was awesome. i bought her a triple combination and talked with Lorenzo on the phone. that was really cool.
I love you guys tons and hope that all is well. Argentina is good. also can someone tell me how to send a video they need a video for the young men activity and i don't know how to send it,,,,,,
love you all!

"pice de mayo. its a giant plate of french fries and cut up sausages and beef and onions covered in salsas. it's pretty amazing- the four of us got filled up with one plate"
"this was the hardest goodbye- her sisters were gonna be baptised this month and they really liked me because I would draw pictures for all the lessons. the papers on the wall are all the verses that we memorized together. it was part of my trick to get her interested in the book of Mormon and it worked. hahahaha"
"this is what people do for work in villa celina. it's pretty crazy we got to help a lot of them do it in their big  sewing factories.:
